RECA Rural Practice Exam

The primary focus of agroforestry is integrating crops with tree and shrub planting. This approach combines agriculture and forestry practices to create a more sustainable and productive ecosystem. By planting trees and shrubs alongside crops, farmers can improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, and create a microclimate that benefits crop growth. This integration allows for better resource utilization, such as sharing sunlight, nutrients, and space, which can lead to increased overall farm productivity and resilience against pests and diseases.

Effective agroforestry systems can also provide additional benefits such as improved carbon sequestration, better water management, and enhanced habitat for wildlife. This multifaceted approach to land use is essential in promoting environmental sustainability while still supporting agricultural productivity.

In contrast, focusing solely on maximizing crop yields, increasing livestock breeding, or isolating livestock from crops does not capture the holistic benefits of combining different types of vegetation and agricultural practices that agroforestry promotes.
